What to do on your first period

  1. Stay calm

Periods are normal. A first period is not a sudden gush. It often starts as a reddish-brown stain.

  2. Put on protection

Change into period underwear, or stick a pad in regular underwear.

  3. Tell a trusted adult

Call a parent. At school, a teacher or the school nurse can help.

  4. Change when needed

Change when it feels damp, full or uncomfortable. Put a used pair in the small bag.

  5. Write down the date

Mark the day on a calendar. It can take some months for periods to find a pattern.

Why add period underwear to the kit?

Period underwear goes on like regular underwear. There is nothing to stick on or insert. The NHS says it is suitable for people who have just started their periods.

Kischt has three absorbent layers and a moisture barrier that helps stop leaks. The protective gusset runs up toward the back for extra coverage when sitting.

Picking a size

Kischt is made for women, in sizes XS to 4XL. If your child already wears women's sizes, check the size chart. If they are between sizes, follow the chart.
